As I have said many times in this blog space, signs and the impact of climate change is happening much faster than the models predicted. Almost every day now, there are articles in the news that highlight fires, drought, heat waves, etc… Yesterday a scientific study was release that talks about AMOC (Atlantic meridional overturning circulation) and growing concern that we are approaching a critical tipping point that regulates weather in the northeast of North America and Europe along with as yet not fully understood global weather. Earlier models predicted its collapse not until the end of the century but now there is significant concern that it could happen this decade.
Tipping points are events that are viewed as irreversible in human lifetimes and create ongoing changes to accelerate climate change impact, ergo the raising of the planet’s temperature and weather conditions. I noted some time back that I am of the opinion that we have already crossed the tipping point(s) in areas such as permafrost melting causing huge methane releases and Greenland ice melting which is causing the AMOC failure.
All this points to challenges that we had hoped would occur 20 to 30 years from now but may occur in very few years. Don’t get caught unprepared!
