Back from the farm

For those of you who have been watching the site and reading my blog, you know that I am developing a sustainable demonstration farm up in West Central Washington.  Just spent 5 days up there and it was very hot, which is a bit concerning since that area experienced all time record temperatures in early July.  As I have noted in earlier blogs, the rate of temperature increases in the northern latitudes is happening much faster and higher than the models predicted and I can only hope that this summer’s heat waves are not the new normal.  The area, which traditionally sees average July/August temps of around 74F and is predicted to be close to 80F in 20 to 30 years, was averaging 85F this last week.

That added to the mega drought in the Southwest (the Northwest is having an abnormally dry summer despite having had a wet winter) and the forest fires, is very concerning.  So stay tuned as the project moves slowly forward.  That said, as awareness grows, the real estate markets are heating up and securing land may become more difficult.

He who hesitates, is lost.
