OK, this will be the first blog post on casaearth.com, so let’s start with me, Steve Zadig, Principal/Founder of Climate Adaptation Services Associates. The goal is to help people concerned about Climate Change not only minimize their carbon footprint but also prepare for the impact such as pandemics, fire, water scarcity, societal stress and general security. This can be done in a number of ways from just having a disaster kit, all the way to having a fully sustainable refuge. Early this year, I purchased 50 acres in west central Washington State and will be building out a fully self sustainable demonstration farm utilizing regenerative agriculture, 100% renewable on site energy generation, best in class sustainable architecture (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sustainable_architecture) and animal husbandry. As this project moves forward, everything we learn plus referrals to our associates/partners will be shared with our clients.
Why do this, you might ask? Since I was a child with the good fortune of being exposed to nature, I have been an environmentalist. I became aware of climate change over 40 yrs ago and have watched with growing dismay as mankind continues to consume the Earth’s resources, discharge carbon locked away in the ground and poorly manage water. Now, the bill is coming due and unless we act quickly, it may become truly catastrophic. Even with meeting the IPCC goal of reduced emissions by 2050, we are in for a rough ride. Frankly, the new normal today of 415 ppm of CO2 in the atmosphere may drive the earth to a tipping point, if it already hasn’t. That said, we can make it worse and probably will before our very survival wakes enough of us up to face the challenge.
I enjoyed a very successful career in Technology and did so by being the dumbest guy in the room. I helped build the 1st and 3rd fastest growing integrated circuit companies, cofounded the World’s largest association of semiconductor companies and started several world class medical device companies by surrounding myself with the best and brightest for the task at hand. I intend to do so for CASA and hope you will join me not only to find ways to adapt to a changing World but also make a difference. SZ
