FINALLY! Trump is out of office and the Biden Administration is rolling up its sleeves and getting to work on Covid, vaccines, economic support and a million other challenges, not the least of which is Climate Change. But wait a minute, that is a long and urgent list and many of us just want to get things back to ‘normal’ without taking on a list of new changes like reducing our carbon footprint.
However, as I have written in earlier posts, the CO2 level is continuing to climb (remember, what comes out of our cars, gas heaters, stoves, cows mouths and butts, and fossil fueled power plants, keeps on raising the levels for 10yrs even if we went to zero tomorrow). So if you look at this chart:
It tells us that since around 2005 when ppm levels of CO2 were 380, by the end of 2020 they are now 415 and by 2030 we can estimate they will be approaching 435 even if we cut emissions significantly (which we absolutely need to do!!). So no rest for the wicked, I guess, and that is the optimistic view.
Like a broken record (remember those?) or a digital recording with a glitch, forward thinkers need to start putting in place plans for a challenging future that will impact those younger folks and the World they are going to inherit.
