Welcome 2022

Well, it is 2022 and we have a lot on our plate to distract us from thinking about Climate Change.  It is what we humans do; pay attention to the biggest perceived problem in front of us and let less immediate issues stay on the sidelines.  Right now it is Omicron, in the US it is the economy (inflation and jobs) and also the growing threat to Democracy.  Problem is, the juggernaut of Climate Change is continuing to plow forward and recent reporting shows CO2 ppm increased 6% last year.  This is not good news!

In order to meet the 1.5 deg C increase, we should be reducing GHG emissions by 5% per year and for anyone who has followed my pessimistic diatribes, I think we have a snowball’s chance in hell of meeting that goal.  BTW, at the current average global increase of 1.1 to 1.2 deg C we are at today, there are many, many events occurring that will only get worse, so 1.5 is not going to be a cake walk, even if we achieve it.

So, anyway, Happy New Year and be of good cheer!  That said, don’t forget that a new, more difficult World awaits us and getting adaptation strategies in place for yourself, your children and grandchildren might be prudent.
